New helmet break-in

I got a new motorcycle helmet after having used my old one for 4 years. The thing with motorcycle helmet is that the foam padding breaks in. So, when it's new, it should be very very snug. Borderline painful. Once it breaks in, it'll just be snug. If you make the rookie mistake and buy it where it's just snug when new, then it'll become loose after it breaks in and can move around on your head. A loose helmet doesn't protect as well as a snug one.
